Strength. Discipline. Respect. These rules keep our training safe, our dojo clean and our students progressing. Every member is expected to know and follow them.
1. General Conduct
- Treat coaches, staff, seniors and fellow students with respect at all times.
- Follow your coach's instructions without argument during class.
- Help beginners, and train with control — never try to injure a training partner.
- Keep the mats, changing areas and equipment clean, and put everything back in its place.
2. Dojo Etiquette
- Bow when entering and leaving the training area.
- Remove footwear before stepping onto the mat.
- Do not step onto the mat while a class is in progress without your coach's permission.
- No food, chewing gum or coloured drinks on the mat. Water is allowed in a closed bottle.
- Mobile phones must be silenced and kept off the mat.
3. Uniform & Equipment
- Wear the prescribed uniform for your programme, clean and in good condition, for every class.
- Wear the belt you have actually been graded to — nothing higher.
- Protective gear required for your programme — gloves, shin guards, mouthguard and groin guard — is mandatory for sparring.
- Studio equipment is to be used only under supervision and for its intended purpose. Damage caused by misuse must be compensated.
4. Attendance & Punctuality
- Arrive at least 10 minutes before class to change and warm up.
- Latecomers must wait at the edge of the mat and join only when the coach signals.
- Train only in the batch you are enrolled in. Batch changes need prior approval from the administration.
- Inform your coach in advance if you will be absent for an extended period.
- Regular attendance is required to be considered for a grading.
5. Hygiene & Safety
- Keep fingernails and toenails short and clean.
- Do not train with an open wound, a skin infection or a contagious illness.
- Remove watches, rings, chains and all other jewellery before training.
- Report every injury, however minor, to your coach immediately.
- Inform your coach in advance about any medical condition, injury or medication that affects your training.
6. Parents, Guardians & Guests
- Parents and visitors are welcome in the designated viewing area and must not enter the mat.
- Please do not coach, correct or call out to students during class.
- Children must be dropped off and picked up on time. Xmartia is not responsible for students outside their class hours.
- Trial sessions for guests must be arranged with the administration in advance.
7. Gradings & Promotions
- Belt promotions are earned through attendance, skill, attitude and performance at a grading — never by time served or fees paid alone.
- Students are invited to a grading at the discretion of their coach.
- Grading fees are payable in advance and are non-refundable once the grading date is confirmed.
- A student who does not meet the standard may be asked to re-attempt the grading at a later date.
8. Strictly Prohibited
- Using martial arts techniques outside the studio for anything other than genuine self-defence.
- Alcohol, tobacco, drugs and performance-enhancing substances on the premises or before class.
- Bullying, ragging, harassment, abusive language, fighting or discrimination of any kind.
- Teaching Xmartia curriculum or techniques to others for payment without written permission.
- Filming or photographing other students or coaches without their consent.
9. Suspension & Termination
Management may suspend or cancel a membership for any breach of these rules, for misconduct, or for behaviour that endangers other students. No refund is given in such cases, as set out in our Refund & Hold Policy.
These rules exist to keep every student safe and to protect the spirit of the dojo. If anything here is unclear, please ask your coach or the studio administration.
